Hello Folks,
Hopefully, you can come up with some good advice here, to bail out a friend of mine. He has just completed a frame-off restoration of his 1956 TR3. His mechanic is now putting it back together, and has reached a major roadblock.
Apparently, the body shop misplaced the wooden component that goes across the top of the dashboard. I understand that this is a 3-piece set, dove-tailed together, with a curve that fits the top of the dash.
Obviously, this part is no longer available via the usual suppliers. Is this something that, if he could get his hands on one, he could trace it onto a 2x6, then cut out with a saber saw?
I would love to hear your recommendations for:
1. Finding a new piece, or 2. Fabricating a new piece, using an old piece as a template.
I look forward to hearing from you. I am as anxious as he is to get his car on the road, as it is a beautiful Salvador Blue narrow mouth, which would be our Club's first narrow-mouth on the road for our driving events.
Thanx in advance,
George
P.S. The girl said that it "was love at second sight." Her friend asked, "Second sight?" She said, "Yes, the first time I saw him I didn't know he was rich."
