On my 57 TR3 I had the typical layout for all rear lights that later TR3's had. Outside break/tail lamps, inboard turn signals, and center plate light. What was different with mine was that the inboard turn signal lamps were bolted to the body (with a gasket between the body shell and the turn signal base), and not stamped into the body shell. My commission number was TS16100L. I think that puts it as an early 57.

The question that has bugged me over 25 years is two fold: (1) Has any one seen another TR with bolt on turn signals, and (2) does any one know at what commission number was the change made from the TR2 light setup?

My TR2, TS 2183-O has the outer lights as running/turn signals and the license light as the single brake light.  There is a lower boundary for the time being.

I have seen the bolt-on plinths for the beehive separate turn signals.  If I recall the story correctly, they were only for certain markets, and only for a few thousand commission numbers.  After that they reworked the rear apron to make the plinths part of the pressing and the beehives became standard for all markets.

Looking at the SPC, I see P/N 116459 (the rear beehive lamps) introduced for the USA at TS15601; while the apron didn't change until TS16473.  Can't prove it, but I think it very likely that US-spec cars (perhaps Holland and Belgium too) used the bolt-on plinths between TS15601 and TS16473.  That would also jibe with your TS16100L having them (assuming it's a US-spec car).

The plinths don't seem to be listed in the TR2/3 SPC, but I've got the part number stashed away somewhere.  They were also used on some GT6 IIRC.

At any rate, TS13571L does not have the beehives, and TS39781LO had the integral plinths.
