I'm currently detailing the outside of the engine to my daughter's 1959 TR3A and need to refinish the timing chain cover.  A friend of mine had made the mistake of sanding off all his sound proofing material on his Spitfire cover and recoated it with  truck bed-liner material.   My cover had very little left on the cover, approximately 2" x 2 " square, so I need to recover completely.   What should I use as a substitute to the original material the factory used?   Is the factory-type material still available somewhere?   Am I thinking correctly on this project?

Unless you are worried about some concours judge missing it; I would just not worry about it.  None of my TRs have had anything on the timing cover; but the chain didn't make enough noise to hear unless your head was actually in the engine compartment.  The valves are much louder.
