'73 TR6

« on: June 01, 2010, 09:02:50 PM »

Hi, I am a proud new owner of a 1973 TR6 which currently has Michelin red line tires.  I really like the look of the red lines, but these tires need to be replaced due to age. I am looking for some ideas on the best street tires to replace the Michelin's.  I think I would prefer a slightly lower, wider profile tire (205HR15) with better handling characteristics.  I see where Coker offers a red-line tire in te same size as the Michelin, but have not read real good things about performance of  the Coker tires. I have read where some owners love the Yokohama 195HR15 and 205HR15 Avid TRZ tire's performance on the TR6.
I am running the standard 5" wide factory steel road wheels and don't have any plans to change them .

Thanks for any suggestions, ideas any of you can provide and what is working well for you on your car.

I tried Faklen 205-65x15 on our 1974 TR6 and really like them, plus the cost was really good compared to other tires.  I chose that size to keep same diameter as the original, but wider (looks better than the thinner original size).

I use Goodyear Aquatread 205/70 on 15" stock steel rim.  I prefer the look of the wider tire, and the tread looks cool.

Have you experienced any "rubbing" problems with the wider 205/70 profile tires?
