Hi TR4 fans,
I've always admired the lines of the TR4, and am finally about to purchase a 67 TR4A, well maintained, minimal rust, sitting for a few years, good price.
Seems like a shoe-in, except I'm 6'3", and may be too tall for the car.
With seat back almost in last position, there is barely any room between my right leg and the steering wheel, actually leg rubs on wheel. Seat would have to be pulled out and freed up before being able to move to extreme postion, and seller not keen on any work before purchase.
So, my question is, are there any other tall guys out there who have similar issue, and if so, any ideas?
Also wondering if any other TRs were made with a smaller steering wheel that could be swapped into this car, and still keep some of the originality.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I just got a TR4A too, I am tall and had the same problem you have. What I did was get a 14" Motolito steering wheel , then I took apart the upholstry on the drivers seat back and cut out a moon shape where the wheel well bumps the seat back, I also cut the metal seat frame out of this area with an hacksaw, and then put the upholstry back together, this mod gives you an extra 2". And now I am quite comfortable. Another thing i plan to do is thn the padding at the top of the seat back to give it a bit more rake.

Hi Lars,
Thanks for the info. The car is still available, so I may be able to put some or all of those good ideas into practise.

A TR6 wheel fits without any trouble and it looks almost "correct"!

I had a friend who wanted a 4 but just was too tall to be comfortable in it. I hate to say it but he bought a Fiat 124 Spider and he has all the room he needs. Nice car also but not a Triumph.

I am also 6'3" and have a TR3 and a TR4.  My solution to the TR4 seat is to move the seat to the right to allow it to be moved back further.  This can be done easily by changing the two mounting bolts between the front of the seat and the slider on the floor.  Then use some spacers on the bolts to move the seat to the right or center of the car. About 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch does wonders. This moves the seat away from the wheel arch in back further.
