In recent times we're told BMW is again moving to protect their trademark on the Triumph name and logo. We're told some clubs have received "cease and desist" letters from BMW on their use of the Triumph name and logo.

First question: Has anyone here actually seen such a letter? What did it say? Can anyone scan and post such a letter so we can all see it?

Second question: We know that VTR was given a license to use the Triumph name and logo by Jaguar Rover Triumph back in the 80's, and is thus protected from prosecution by BMW. Do official chapters of VTR enjoy that same protection? VTR uses the "World" logo in its shield, are they also licensed to use the "Laurel" logo? Are they licensed to use the various model badges and logos, such as the strobed "TR8" insignia or the Leaping Stag?

Third question: I read somewhere that in order to protect VTR, we need to use the "registered" form of the VTR logo when we use it. Where can we get these "registered" logos in various screen resolutions?

Hi Wayne,

I am doing the research necessary to answer your questions and will be back to you. Members of VTR may contact me at bdischer@vtr.org if they are interested.

With regard to question 3, that logo is available (in EPS format only so that you can scale it to what you require) on request from either Mike Cook or myself.  I will send you the file momentarily.

Cheers,
Blake

Noe. We can only conclude that such letters don't exist.
