I just bought a TR7 on July 3rd from out on Long Island. The car is a virtual time capsule machine with only 7700 miles on the clock. It had been parked in an airplane hangar under the wing of the owner's Beechcraft V-Tail Bonanza. Did I mention we were in the Hamptons?
During the drive home to NJ, I noticed the tach would sometimes go flaky, jumping up several hundred or a thousand RPM before returning to a more accurate reading. These excursions sometimes coincided with some flaky running in the engine, so I'm inclined to think I have an ignition problem as opposed to just a tach problem. Arcing perhaps?
This car has the Delco ignition system. Has anyone experienced this before? If so, what was the cause and how did you fix it?
