I just bought a TR7 on July 3rd from out on Long Island. The car is a virtual time capsule machine with only 7700 miles on the clock. It had been parked in an airplane hangar under the wing of the owner's Beechcraft V-Tail Bonanza. Did I mention we were in the Hamptons?  Roll Eyes
During the drive home to NJ, I noticed the tach would sometimes go flaky, jumping up several hundred or a thousand RPM before returning to a more accurate reading. These excursions sometimes coincided with some flaky running in the engine, so I'm inclined to think I have an ignition problem as opposed to just a tach problem. Arcing perhaps?
This car has the Delco ignition system. Has anyone experienced this before? If so, what was the cause and how did you fix it?

FWIW, this problem has been solved. When I ran the engine in the dark it was clear the original green spark plug wires were arcing. Too bad, because they added a nice touch to the engine bay. A new set of wires, along with new plugs, cap and rotor, and the engine runs better and the tach is stable.
