Anyone have any suggestions for a reputable company to provide covered transport for a '69 Spitfire Mk III?  From the Finger Lakes NY area to Santa Barbara CA.  Anyone know of anyone traveling east to west with an empty trailer or available space?

Probably in the January/February timeframe.

Thank you,

Hi Steve:

Rick Reeves here, VTR Webmaster, Santa Barbara Resident, AND Spitfire (1964) owner.

I shipped my Spit from Colorado Springs, CO here, and used this transport broker
to find a good carrier:

Head of the Pack Transport - Broker located in Calabasas.

todd@headofthepacktransport.com

I have shipped three cars, used this guy twice.

The standard procedure seems to be: tell the broker what you need, and let him
find a spot on the right transporter. He puts the word out, and the independent
carriers 'bid' on the job. It is cheapest if you wait a few days until a carrier
already headed your way finds a spot on his truck for your car.

Lots of carriers seem to deliver to the Mercedes / BMW / Audi dealer, and have a
spot the size of a Spit available.

BTW, an enclosed carrier is 35% more expensive than uncovered. I shipped mine uncovered (though it was in July) and nothing happened.

Hope this helps,
Rick R
