Hi,

I could use some help in selecting a good street tire that performs well and still has about a 65K mileage rating.  Additionally, I would like to increase the width of the tire without rubbing during max turn.  I have a tube shock conversion too. So I am concerned about rubbing there also.  I am thinking of going with a Goodyear Advanced tire, 205/70 R15.  Can I go wider?  Other tire suggestions?  Oh, one other thing.  My rims are Tr6 factory spoke rims, if that makes a difference.
Thanks,

Jeff

I'm not sure about clearance if you increase the width, since I don't currently own a TR6. I alway had 185-15s on my TR6

One other issue you need to keep in mind is to check the minimum rim width specified for a wider tire size to verify you rims are not out of spec for the tires.

On my TR4 I am running 205-65-15's on Panasport wheels. I do not have any problems with tires rubbing front or back and I have converted to tube shocks in the rear.  There is a lot of room for the tires. But the three areas you will need to pay attention to are 1)the width of the rims you are using and what will fit on the rims, 2) wider tires will also stick out beyond the fenders a slight amount and 3) determine the total diameter of the tire you have compared to the tire that you want to put on.  If you don't match the diameters then your speeometer will be thrown off.  Number 2) is not a problem except for throwing rocks and mud , etc.on the outside of the car.  My car looks great with the wider tires and I have to say it rides and corners so much  better.  With the higher speeds on freeways I like have more tire on the road.

I use 205-65x15 on my std 1974 TR6 rims, looks really good and rides/handles good.  I still have lever shocks so I don't know about clearance with the tube shock conversion.

I've had a set of 215/70 x 15 Yokohama Avid S/T on my TR6 for several hundred miles now. Circumference is correct and speedometer is spot on.  Ride is excellent too.  No rubbing anywhere and they're a 97T rating. Comes in outline white letter but just reverse them for blackwall.
