Hi, I'm new to this forum, been posting on the TR Register for a while now.

Anyone got an idea how much an original TR4 metal dash is worth? I'm in the middle of my resto, and will be changing the dash from metal to wood veneer. I've been told that the 4a wood dash needs a metal back plate to screw into, but is there a way the metal dash I have could be modified to have the veneer screw into it?

Alex

I've attached a photo of the dash...

The  original metal dash that you have IS what the wood veneer screws onto.  If you try to totally remove the metal dash from the car you will find that it is a integral part of the body of the car and is bolted on at the top, sides and bottom by way of the dash support.  You DO NOT get rid of the original dash but simply cover PART OF IT up with a wood covering.  No modifications are needed for the original dash to get covered up by the wood veneer.  I do not know if the five or so screws that hold the veneer onto  your original dash will need to be drilled into the original metal dash, but that is about all of the modifications needed.

Thanks for that Charley, I wondered if this was the case but have had varying responses from varying sources. I think the metal dash will need to be drilled as the positioning of the screws from what I've seen do not line up to any holes (eg. there is one located just beneath the glove box). But thanks again for clearing that up.
