Just finished rebuilding my 63 TR4 engine and found small amounts of oil in the radiator after test drives. No water in oil and no signs of water in cylinders. Do not understand how oil can be in the radiator but oil & cylinders can be clean,(car runs great otherwise). Any advice for the severely depressed and defeated? Cry

Is there any chance some oil got left behind in the water jacket (say on the outside of the liners) and is just now finding it's way to the top of the radiator?

A little oil in the water won't necessarily hurt anything, so I'd try driving it for awhile and monitor the situation.  I can't think where it might be leaking, except a crack in the block somewhere between an oil passage and the water jacket.  The oil going through that hole in the head gasket is very low pressure, so if there were a leak there I would expect it to go the other way.

Randall: Thanks for the reply. It's the first wet liner engine I have rebuilt. Normal head gasket problems and cracked blocks/heads to me mean water in the oil and cylinders. The block was tanked and checked by a local shop. The head was a NOS part and crack checked by the same shop. That does not mean that some defect was not overlooked or I did not make an error in reassembly. I'll fill the oil and water again this weekend and retry. Thanks, Carl
