Had this otherwise great car about six weeks.  No initial starting problems.  Now, the car will start up or not depending on its mood.  Can drive it somewhere, stop and then will maybe start up or not.  I get nothing when I turn the key or one click.  If I rock the car with my weight that may help to remedy the problem.  Put a charger on the battery and that may help but the battery is charging well.  Concerned about being stranded but so far it eventually starts.  Do you think I have a battery, starter or fly wheel problem?  Thanks for any ideas.

The first thing to check is the battery connections, especially to ground.  One click may mean you have nothing more than a loose negative connection at the battery to ground. Make sure both cables are clean and tight.

You need to check the connections at the starter selenoid and make sure they are tight. Also the battery ground to the engine and transmission must be good. If problem persists then most likely a ignition switch might be in the future to resolve the starting problem.

I had exactly the problem you describe, was advised to clean the battery terminals and the cable connections.  I thought that was too simple an answer, but did it anyway.  Viola!  It worked and my TR6 started right up.  Thankful the solution was cheap... no, free!  Cheers.

To add to the above advice, once you have cleaned the battery posts and cables and secured everything back together put a good coat of petroleum jelly (Vaselineā„¢) on the terminals. This will help keep it from getting the corrosion back again that you so diligently cleaned off.

If you don't drive it, it ain't a sports car it's an over-sized paperweight.

I greatly value the advice given here. I wanted to give an update to my start problem.  Cleaned and adjusted the battery cables although they seemed OK.  Consulted with a friend who has rebuilt a 911.  We decided that the starter was a likely source of the problem and would be good to rebuild it anyway.  He helped me drop the starter.  Had it rebuilt and put it back in this weekend.  Runs great, no problems.  We think it was the solenoid portion of the starter although I had the whole thing rebuilt.  Again, appreciate the support given in this forum.
