I'm thinking of replacing the original motor and trans a with a small liter honda or toyota. what's the best fit ? ...is there a book out on engine & trans conversions, I seen on the forum someone swapped for a 2.2 toyota w/ 5 speed.  Huh

PS:  will the stock rear end hold up ?

Mark from M and M motors in Rhinebeck NY did a fantastic conversion.
