I purchased a 1965 TR4A in 1975. It's been out of commission for about 20 years, and I'm now working on it. I ordered a dash and when I went to install it, I saw that the old one was slightly different. The dash and steering column are set up as the TR4 with the panel rheostat on the dash to the left of the steering column and the light switch on the plinth to the rigt of the steering column. The overdrive and turn signal switches are on the column. Everything else on the car is TR4A (grill, IRS, external turn signal indicators). According to the commission number, this was the 477th TR4A built in 1965. Does anyone have a 1965 TR4A with overdrive built prior to this one? I'd like to make sure that the dash setup is incorrect before I change it.

Thanks,
Richard

Richard:
Interesting problem you have!  If you do have IRS, the 4A frame and a commission number of CTC50477L then a PO has put a 4 dash in place of a 4A.  What you have decribed is definitely the layout for a TR4, so you have a choice - either put in a new wooden TR4 dash or buy the 4A dash, 4A pieces and install them in correct locations for the 4A.  Look at it this way, only a Concours judge will notice the discrepancy and it will probably drive him or her crazy!!
