Getting ready for a repaint. One of the issues I need corrected is a spare tire cover that does not fit flush with the rest of the body. Prev owner replaced the rubber gasket and it looks correct. Any of you aware of different gaskets for this lid? Maybe I have the wrong one? Does the small lip of the gasket go towards the outside or inside?
Also, Anyone have the ppg paint code for cotswold blue?
Thanks

Gordon,
When I did mine & dug out the 40+ year old spare tire cover gasket, it looked square, but it was so rotten I had no way of being sure.  I had Metro Moulded Parts send me 6 feet of their 1/2" wide  x 3/8" deep (closed cell black) sponge rubber gasket material & it worked great. (See METROMMP.COM, Part LP58-J)
The gasket is soft enough so the budget locks pull the door in flush with the body at the edges but mine sits about 1/16" proud at the center. It still seals so I never gave it any thought as to whether it was correct or not.
Re: Cotswold Blue.....I didn't think that was ever a color that Triumph offered,
or are you doing what I did...Paint it a color I liked !!
Anyway, the XKE Jaguars has a Cotswold blue and there is a reasonably close pic at  ...........>>www.xkedata.com/catalog/colors<< If that's the color you have in mind, ask the PPG dealer  for "Nexa Autocolor  3318 or 3318B"   That's actually PPG Europe but I THINK a US dealer can cross reference.
Also, the old Ditzler number for Cotswold blue was 12199, but even though PPG & Ditzler were the same company by thenI don't think PPG crossed any of those numbers.
I hope this helps.

I had the same problem with my TR3 after replacing the gasket.  It was way to high to get the door closed with the locks.  So I used a razor blade and trimmed off some of the gasket from the back side.  It has been a while sinde I did this but just repainted the car and refused to remove the gasket again as I was not about to have another run at trying to fit the gasket again.  The gasket was used with the gasket pointing outwards for the seal.
Good luck.
