My father and I restored a 61 TR3 back in early 70's and it has seen intermittant driving but been indoor stored for the last 5 years with no driving.  I am in Sandusky, Ohio and would like advice on a knowledgeable mechanic in my area that could pick up car and get back to running condition.  I have not tried to start myself and no known major issues, just want to be sure care safe for road travel after 5 years of no use (brakes, hoses, etc.) and get it running again.  Any suggestions in my area would be appreciated.  can call off line if you desire 440.967.8211.   thanks.  Dave.

I acquired a 1961 TR3 earlier this year, and it hadn't been driven much for five years.  The first thing I had to do was replace all the neoprene hoses in the fule system, and rebuild the SUs.  Some of the gaskets around the main jet were cork, and they had dried out and crumpled.  When I drove it home, the mixture was extremely rich, and I smelled gas when I parked at my house.  There was gas dripping from the bottom of both carbs and float bowls!  I complete rebuild of both carbs did the trick and I've been driving it around at least once a week ever since.  It pays to check everything ocassionally, as things tend to loosen up.  My last MPG check was 23MPG overall (city/highway).  I'm gradually working my way through the brakes, clutch, transmission, drive shaft, etc. to ensure that everything is in it's best working order.  Right now I limit my excursions to about 50 miles one way.  I hope to have it completely road worthy in a year.  I live in central Illinois right now, but I'm seriously considering moving back to my home, Akron Ohio, soon.  If I get back, I'll give you a call.  I'd be glad to give your TR the once over!

thanks for the input.  I appreciate.  I really need to get the time to do it myself but could be a bit.  Please do contact me if you get back this way.  Love to see your car as well.  ours is origional yellow, chrome spokes, and brown interior.  I have a buddy with same car in red with black he just redid.  I like the style more every year as I age a bit.   Dave.
