Hey Charlie, my name is Phil Strong and I'm new to this forum. I've got this 62 TR3  a little while ago and it actually runs. Problem is that after installing  new points and condenser it was still running rough. After new spark plugs ,it ran a little better. Found out that the timing was 4 dergees before tdc but could not find  info on the dwell. Is this adjusted with the wheel under the distributer, and where do you start from with this? I appreciate you replying to my first post and I hope to continue gathering and someday giving advice about these great cars. Thanks Charlie.         Phil

Hi,

Most of us are finding that the timing is set a lot further forward.  Like about 12 to 14 degrees.  As to the dwell, I have never had an instrument to measure this.  You should set the points at 0.015 and maintain that setting.  This will change after the new points have been run in a bit.  One way you may notice this is that the car may be a bit harder to start.  By resetting the points to the original setting it will assist the starting.  According to one of my books the dwell angle is 27-33 degrees.
Before setting your timing you can set the wheel to the neutral mark.  Then if you want to increase or decrease the timing by a slight margin you can use the wheel. Otherwise you can loosen the distributor and set the timing by adjusting it.

Hope I am not steering you wrong here.
