Hi Everyone, I'm new to this forum and I just got a 62 TR3 that needs help. I had one back in the early 70's and it was a positive ground. Did they change to negative ground in 62 and how can you tell ? Also I would like to know the gap for the points, any help out there?

Triumph did not change from the positive ground until, I believe the TR4A.  But you will find that many people changed their cars  over to negative ground for various reasons like putting in a regular radio.  I am assuming that you do not presently have a battery in the car that you can look at to deterine which terminal is grounded.  The battery should be marked + or -.  I would suggest that you put a battery in the car and then look at the amp meter to determine which way the needle swings when you start the car,if you can start it.  Actually the amp needle should swing to the negative side by just turning on the key if the battery is hooked up correctly.  And of course if the needle swings to the positive side without the generator running the battery is then hooked up backwards.  Does the car still have a generator in it or has it been changed over to a alternator?  Most all alternators are going to be negative ground, which is another reason why so many changed to negative ground.

As to the points gap it is 0.015 and spark plugs are 0.025.

Hope I have not steered you wrong.
