Greetings!  My 72 Stag fuel guage doesn't work.  Looking at the wiring diagram, it appears the lamp is wired in series with the sender and guage.  If this is right, then if the lamp goes out, it acts like a blown fuse and kills the guage.  Anyone ever see this before?  I'm going to drop the panel and replace the lamp, since I assume it's blown (I've never seen it lit).  Is my assumption correct about the lamp killing the guage?  Thanks.

Nope, the diagram is misleading.  The lamp circuit is essentially independent of the gauge circuit; either one with work without the other.

I would start with the leads in the boot, just because they are easier to get to.  Shorting the green/orange wire to ground should light the lamp (unless it is burned out); while shorting the green/black (just briefly) should cause the gauge to move upscale.
