I know I'm probably going to be a pain in the rump for some of you guys but I'm just not an engine mechanic.
I've replaced the starter, alternator, master cylinder, motor mounts, etc but the engine throws me.
the other day I had a problem with my '74 1500 hesitating after it heated up and I was accelerating.
I checked a couple things Mitch suggested and found that the dashpot had no oil in it.
I filled the dashpot to within 1/4" of the top and took the car for a spin. Seemed to drive a whole lot better until today.
When I left the super market it was really struggling to accellerate and finally died on me. It may be flooding as I smeelled a strong odor of gasoline and when I tried to restart it it took considerable time as if it was trying to get rid of the excess fuel.
Any more suggestions?
Thanks,
Smoke

Ron,
I'm not a Stromberg expert, but does the manual say how much oil to add? I know my SU's do not take that much oil. You may be burning oil working it's way past the diaphram in your carb. I have heard of cracked diaphrams in the Strombergs being a problem. What kind of oil did you use?

The manual says to fill it within 1/4" of the top and you should feel some resistance when replacing the cap - which I do.
It shows a bottle of multi purpose oil (ie. 3-in-1?). However the stuff I found on internet says regular engin oil.
I didn't even think of the diaphragm.
