I guess that there are a lot of reasons for getting on this forum.  I do not own a TR6 but stil get on to the TR6 site occasionally.  The reason is simple.  I own three other TR's.  And did you know that the TR4 and the TR6 share a lot of similar parts?  Therefore, the restoration or maladies of one of these cars includes information about the other car.  I just love TR's.  It does seem that a lot of people are just looking rather than lurking.  But then a lot of these folks may not have been working on TR's for a number of years.  So I get on this site to help others out by trying to answer any questions that I may know the answer to.  But then I also don't try to answer the questions that I don't know the answer to.  I have also ask a few questions and gotten very few replies.  But any reply is a good start to a solution. I  do hope that you enjoy your TR6.  Theya re a real funcar to dirve.  If you haven't joined a good car club that likes to drive on short tours, you should think about it.

I share the question and have expressed it on more than one occasion.
My hope was that the long time members of VTR would actually take some interest and pride in their club's own web site and participate. In fairness a few have.
I have hoped for more from these phantom members for a few years. The local chapter seems to be totally inactive. Because of the non-response I have not renewed my VTR membership and am not interested in the annual gatherings. I have simply lost interest.

On the other hand I have found other very interesting groups.

charlie and "none". I thank you both for your input. I am sorry to hear that this has been discussed before to no avail. I am looking for a place to exchange information on line, if you like please e-mail me the other sources you have found.
my research tells me they made 80,000 + of these cars and exported them. there MUST be owners out there that have knowledge to share, probably they just gave up on this forum?, however that does not explain why the posts are read by so many...

I do not have a list of "other" sites. I did get on one site a few years ago and was not interested in what it had at that time.  So I get on this one and I am able to help some  other owners with their cars.  This site seems to work best if you have a question about the cars.  Then you will often get an answer or two.
I like to drive my cars and spend time restoring them. However, I am sure that the order is actually reversed.  I spend a lot more time restoring them than driving them.  I have restored a TR3 and TR4 and am redoing the TR3 again. Then I have another TR4 that will be next in line.  I found a local British Car club that has folks that like to drive their cars and we do a bit of that as a group.
I am not sure how many owners out there try to do their own repairs or restorations.  That would seem to me to be a likely person to use this site.
AS to NONE, I live in a small town in northern Calif and am rather far from VTR activities for the most part.  But I still find value to being amember of VTR and have attended two to the National meets and intend to be there in 2009 when it again comes to the west.  There are a lot of people out there that are holding this organization together.  And I applaud them for their efforts and support them by continuing to be a member, even if I am not able to enjoy all of the events or find all of the things here that I would like.  I really believe that a local group is the best situation if one can be found.  If it can't be found, build it!

I normally hang on two other very active sites, the British Car Forum and 6-Pack.  Both are great, but I really never knew that this was here.  Shame on me, as I've been a member for a few years.

We'll help if we can. Just joined the forum.
I have two 73 tr6's.
We have just started a new Triumph club in the
Rochester New York area, and we have people
that can help.
Hope to hear from other members also.

As a new member here (I just purchased my first TR6 (a 71)) I am hoping to find an active and helpful community as I get into the restoration prject, but this does not sound encouraging...

Hi Unclesol,

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new car!

I think like all of the various hobbyist car clubs, you'll get out of them as much as you put into them.  The relevance of this forum depends on the community that uses it.

I had an interesting talk with the President of another non-British car club about forums and listserves.  A listserve is what the Triumph AutoX mailing list is called.  There is no question that Mark Bradakis' Triumph lists are very widely used and read, that's why there is information about them on the VTR website: http://vtr.org/mailing-list.shtml.  It's also why VTR financially supports Mark's list.  I think Triumph-types are used to that sort of format, one that "pushes" emails to them.  This format on the other hand, requires members to "pull" information from it.  In other words, one has to use a browser to read posts.

The other guy's club uses only their forum, there is no listserve in place.  He said there was long ago, but it collapsed and the forum was put in place.  I think it's just a matter of what format people are used to.  VTR created this forum as another means for members and non-members alike.

If anyone is interested in moderating this forum, please let me know.  A good moderator can toss out subjects to talk about, even something as benign as "Damn it's cold here in Detroit!"

Please don't forget to sign your posts with your full name.  Stay warm!

I think that the high number of views on this forum has to do with search engine bots trolling through.  It looks like the people who visit do post and follow up in a very encouraging manner.  The follow up is not the normal on many automotive forums, it's more of a "take the money and run" attitude.
