Hello,

I owned a 1979 Spitfire for 7 years while in high school and college. I have found its long lost twin recently and am thinking about purchasing it. I live in Texas and also have a 1976 Porsche 914. Both of my little roadsters have NEVER had air. Thats 28 years of sports car motoring in Texas without air conditioning. I am not a wimp . . . but probably suffering from the effects of long term heat exhaustion!  Wink

The 914 is primarily a track car now and rarely sees the road as a daily driver. The new Spitfire will be a daily commuter. Eight miles one way average suburban/highway traffic.

Is there a proven after market air conditioning solution for late model Spitfires?

If there is one please, please pipe up quick while the "twin" is still for sale.

This information will help "seal the deal"!

Thanks in advance for any information/help you can give me!

Seems to be several companies in Texas doing aftermarket air.  Hot Rod Air and VintageAir are two.  A lot depends on how much space you can find under the dash.  I have been kicking around the idea of putting AC on my TR4A for a few years.  I am thinking that sometime I need to browse a junkyard with a tape measure, and see what would be close to the dimensions I need for the inside unit.  Since the heater fan isn't very strong, maybe an upgrade there too.  The compressor, drier and coils for out front should be easier since there is room.  I hear the Sanden TR/TRS series is more efficient, but that hasn't really been verified to me yet.  Most aftermarket companies are using a Sanden 508 compressor.
