Howdy all from the great state of Kansas!

I recently picked up a nice little 1963 Triumph TR4.  This is my first TR4, although, I've had two TR6's in the past, a '73 and a '70. I've never had a Triumph with wire wheels, however, but my 4 did come with an old original set of real magnesium Minilite wheels, very old, the magnesium has turned very dark gray. Although they bolt on with four lug bolts, they still have a threaded center collar, that is part of the wheel, to accept some sort of screw on center cap. I'm missing all four center caps.  The threads are two left handed and two right handed and appear to be, with rough measure, 8 TPI, and approx. 3" outside diameter. Am I correct in assuming these might just take a standard Triumph two eared knock off for center caps?

Let me know your thoughts when you get a moment.  I will try to post pics of the car soon.  It's British Racing Green, with black vinyl seats with white piping, and those really cool vintage minilites.  It's a very solid car, the lacquer paint is cracking due to it's age, but it still shines nicely, the chrome is a little worn, but plenty nice for a driver.  I felt like I got a great deal, sold locally here in Kansas City for $5K.  I didn't haggle.

This is a bit of a guess as I have not owned what you are asking about.   But I believe that I have seen just what you are speaking of.  The two eared knock off that fits on the wheel is not a real knock off , but rather a mock up of one.  It is not solid but rather hollow  behind a front facia.  I have seen a set of these sold on ebay some time ago.  Other than that I have no idea of where to find a replacement for such a thing, except for posting it as a wanted item on VTR parts and cars.

Hey T-bone,

Welcome to the forum!

I had a set of magnesium wheels in the 60's. They were American Racing Silverstones. They came with a small plastic cap that fit on the center with a single screw from the back. I have seen both the cap and the fake knock-offs on mag wheels.

It might be a good idea to do some checking on your wheels. Magnesium wheels tend to corrode not just on the surface but also deep within the metal.
