Please bear with me, this is my first post to the VTR though I have owned TR's for forty years.
After rebuilding, tuning to all the VTR adjustment procedures and general messing around I am giving up on the Stromberg CD175-2's. The engine was rebuilt at the same time the carbs were redone and the water temp controlled vacume advance/retard stuff was removed by the PO. All the canister related stuff is intact. The idle speed changes with the phase of the moon or any other unknown reason and even adjusted to full lean it is still too rich at idle.

I have purchased a pair of CD175's off a TR-4 and am in the process of rebuilding them.
Has anyone (I suspect yes) made this conversion? I understand the emissions complience issues but I can't believe the result could be worse than it is now. I like the idea of continuing to use Strombergs verses the numerous other conversions around. I live in South Texas so temperature changes and emission testing are not an issue.

So any suggestions, tips or results from your making a similar conversion would be appreciated.

Thank you,
John Forrester

John,

Don't know about what you want to do but I can comment on some expeirences that might help.

I owned a '64 TR4 when it was new amd drove it probably to about 75k miles before trading it for a new '67 GT6 that I drove to over 65k miles. Never had any carb problem of any kind with either car.

I now have a '76 TR6 and had Jeff Payla recondition them. They have been on my car for over 6k miles now and work flawlesly. I have no polution equipment on my car and like others that are the same it is well within limits. Oh, it runs great and gets excellent mileage. We keep a fuel log and the last tank we got 27.7 miles per gallon. No overdrive. Bored .020 over, 9.8:1 compression, GP2 cam, and Jag needles in the carbs. Of course, the fill-up before that we only got 20.6 miles per gallon, but did have fun.
