I recently replaced my front motor mounts on my '74 Spit as 1 was broken and the other deteriorated. I did this by having my grandson lift the engine on each side with a crowbar only high enough to replace mounts. Nothing was damaged on either side that I can see.
However, when I drive the car there is a strange sound similar to an exhaust leak from the right side.
It is not present when car is idling. I find no seperation of the exhaust system. Nothing broken.
Again - it is only present when I drive.
Any ideas what it could be?
Thanks in advance.

Okay. I think I have found the source of my noise. Both rear motor mounts are completely deteriorated.
I can't get my tools around to get them out. It looks as tho I can remove the plate and bracket and replace them that way but I'm not sure.
Does anyone know if the transmission tunnel cover is removable and if I could replace them from the inside of the car?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,

Yes, the cover is removable, and it's essentially the only way you can get to the mounts to replace them!

Thanks, Andy.
It was a breeze after I took the tunnel cover out.
