Can anyone tell me the purpose of the about 3/4" 'plug' on the bottom of the carburetor bowl, or how it is 'adjusted'.  I had my carburetors apart, reassembled them and when I went to start the car one of the plugs leaked like crazy.  I proceeded to loosen the plug (unscrewed it a couple of turns), went to start it again and the leak stopped.

Hi J,
Do you mean the plastic plug on the bottom of the bowl? If so, it is just a press-in plug with an o-ring. It is not threaded. Turning it possibly worked out some dirt or helped the o-ring seat properly.

JRose,

The plug on the bottom of the bowl of CD 175-2 carbs is just a method to allow use of the same bowl as the early CD-175. The hole was for the richness adjustment knob/screw to protrude on the early non smog controlled Strombergs. Leakage in my experience is a common problem. At worse case you may have to remove the plug, replace the O ring, clean the bore and put some lube on the O ring before putting the plug back in.
 Good luck,
