Hi every one. Newbie here.

I have a '74 TR6 and are trying to find out what 2 certain wires do.

Under the dash to the right of the heater fan there are two wires that come out of the main wire loom. One green and one green/brown. I can unplug these wires and everthing in the car appears to work....  Huh. I can't figure out what they do. They are a little melted so I'm trying to figure out what/why.

I've looked at a schematic but it did not help. short of tearing out the carpet and dash to trace the wires I though I would ask first.

Thank you in advance,

Tom

Tom
I think you are talking about the reverse light wiring without looking at at a wiring diagram. They should go to the trans cover on the right forward side behind the speaker pad. Check reverse lights then confirm if the harness from trans is there.

Do they go to the column?

I think green and brown were also the colors going to the overdrive switch on my 76.

Hi,
According to my wiring chart...
Green indicates - IGN circuit but with fuses and/or switches in the line.
Green/Purple - brake lights. (yes, I know you said green/brown, but I do not see it listed)
Hope this helps.

What Mark says.

The backup light switch would be mounted on the shift-tower casting on the drivers side a few inches forward of the shift lever. The wires from the switch would be long enough to go through the trans cover where Mark said and connect to the wires in question in the passenger side footwell.
