I recently acquired a 1966 TR4A IRS in very good shape, but found that the battery needs replacing (it is about 7 years old, so not a surprise).  Most of the sources say the OE size battery is 27, but the current one is a 75 and seems to fit well (clearly not as high or wide as the original).  Some sources (such as Exide) indicate at 75 DT (what is the car) or a 78 will work also.  I would welcome any advice on this topic, as well as views on brands, types, cranking power. etc.

Thanks!

Any battery size with about 700+ cold cranking amps will work but only the original size group 27 looks like it belongs there.

Can't quote the source, but I read recently that there are very few battery manufacturers but a lot of private labels.  Speaking of labels, do peel or scrap the tacky looking labels that come on most batteries - in its place put a Lucas sticker available from Moss or Roadster Factory.

Many thanks, Lou.  Pretty much what I thought, but good to have a confirmation.  I like the sticker idea too.

Just to close the loop, I bought an Exide 27 size battery which fits perfectly.  An earlier owner had shortened the hold down rods to accommodate a smaller battery but that was easily fixed.
