I'd like to convert to an electronic speedometer and tach for my '72 Spit, perhaps a VDO set. Has anyone out there done a conversion like this?

Yes, I have a set of Westack gauges form Hainline.  Look in most street rod magazines and you will find them in the advertisers index, or do a google search. Hope this  helps.
