Hello all,

I am restoring my Father's 1960 TR3A (thats him in my avatar, the handsome devil)!  While browsing the web, I ran across a complete list of paint colors to use on different parts, engine block, intake manifold, and so forth. Does this list seem pretty reliable?  Not to offend if the person who actually penned the list is a member of the forum  Wink. The car's original body color is signal red, I'm sticking with that.  Here is a link to the list I am referring to:

Nice place, by the way.  I have learned a lot poking around here.

Regards,

Dan...I also own a 1960 TR3A  (TS 74568) and when I was ready to
start the restoration process I purchased Bill Piggott's book
Original Triumph  TR2/3/3A.  This was a great help..which I
refered all thru the restoration process.
Note...you may find as I did...that there are several shades of
"Signal Red"!
Good luck.

I really don't understand how a side screen car could be correctly restored without having TRA's "Judging Standards & Restoration Guidelines".  It's about 100 pages in length and the detail will stun you.  There is also a section on what color (interior and exterior) combinations were available and when.  Best part is it is free at the TRA website  www.triumphregister.com   If you are even thinking of Concours, or just want to do it right, this is the book to have cause this is the "Bible"

Lou's right, of course!  Grin

I would add that Piggott's books are generally good resources, as are most books on Triumphs. But the vast majority of those books feature images and information relative to home market cars. Although changes between home- and US-market cars weren't as significant on the sidescreen cars as they were on most later models, it still can be an issue if you really want to be correct! Little things, like the fact that sidescreen cars built for the US would've had sealed-beam, US-sourced headlamps (NOT Lucas sealed beams until about 1964, btw). Stuff like that....

Thanks for the response, guys.  I have ordered a copy of Piggot's book and sent my membership application in to VTR last Thursday.  I guess I am fortunate in the car being complete and knowing the history of it.  That should help a little.  It sat in our garage since 1973 for whatever reason.  I did order a certificate from the Motor Heritage Centre.  Right now it is completely torn down, frame off, and I have had the frame media blasted.  I couldn't believe how great it looked.  I suppose I thought it would be pitted or something.  Thanks again.  I am sure I will have many, many more questions throughout this process.

I'm no expert, but I didn't see any errors on the paint list. A couple of omissions; the one that stands out is the "EB" plate directly above the body number plate on the firewall. That gets body color. The temptation seems to be either paint them both or leave them both bare.
