HELP,

I just was given a 67/68 TR250 but the title does not match up. The title  says it a 70 triumph and the commission plate  which is not   on the car also agrees with the title.
The commission # is kc80757L, stamped on th e drivers side of the block there is a stamped # cc67714E on the passenger side on the head there is a stamped #516323, then on the passenger side of the firewall a rivited plate with stamped #CC1551. Before I spend a lot of money restoring this I would like to make sure it is worth it. Where do i find the chassis # and also the tranny #

TR250 comission numbers begin with CD1 and end with CD8594.  There will be a L for left hand drive or a LO for left hand drive with an OD gearbox at the end of the number. This number is stamped on a plate which is rivited to the left hand front wheelarch  under the bonnet.  Engine serial number begins with CC1E, Body serial number 1CC, gearbox CD1 and rear axle CD1. This is from the Roadster Factory Catalog.
Not sure what you have.  The engine could be a TR250 if it was CC6714E but not 67714, too many digits. I am going to say tha KC # you reference is from a GT6. The CC1551 looks like TR250 but is way early for your engine #.  All these numbers don't ever match exactly but they should be close.
Hope this helps,
Darrell

You can research the car by body number (hopefully THAT number is original) at the Heritage Motor Centre: http://www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk/archive/certificate_index.html. Not cheap (costs more that way than by commission number), but hopefully doable.

The KC commission number plate IS from a 1970 GT6+.

Denny,
The CC67714E motor is from a TR6, most likely a very late 71. The paint and interior codes are recorded on the commission plate which you apparently do not have.  None of the other numbers make much sense.  I would recomend that you contact the Roadster Factory Techical Research Department @ 814-446-4491. They will be able to assist you and are a strong supplier of TR250 spares.  Thier catalogs are very descriptive and complete. If you get one for the TR250 a lot of your question will be answered.  Alternatively their website can be accessed via the link provided on VTR's website.  I have NFI in TRF, just a company known to be good for TR250 parts.
Also I would not beat myself up because you apparently have a Triumph with an engine transplant.  Very common unfortunatly.  Yes, utimatly it may be worth less than a numbers matching original but it is IMHO still worth the cost of a resonable restoration for investment, but the purpose should be to Drive an Enjoy! The VTR Motto is; Restoration  Preservation  Enjoyment
Cheers,
Darrell
