Last May (2007) I bought a '74 Spitfire from a buddy of mine. It was preowned by a career Navy guy who waxed it constantly - it took me several hours to clean the wak out of the nooks and crannies. Fortunately it also kept the body in great shape.
I am in the process of restoring it and if anyone has any pointers I'd appreciate the help.
Just to give you some idea where the problems lie the biggest thing I have going now is it sounds as though a u-joint in the left rear is bad. I wonder how hard it is to replace the whole left axle.
Thanks,
Ron

Ron,
Let the group know where you are located and there may be someone near by that can help out. I would not worry about replacing the entire axle, a good quality u-joint replacement will make that Spit feel 100% better!

Mitch,
Thanks for the reply.
I'm in Lakeland, Florida.
The biggest selling/buying point for me with this car was the fact that it is in such good shape. Absolutely no rust with the exception of the area around the leaking master cylinder which I have replaced with new.
No dents except for the hardtop which a garbage truck ran into and busted the rear glass out of.
It needs carpet, a little mechanical and minor cosmetics.
I'm having a great time driving it and fixing it up but I know I'll need some advice as I go.
Thanks,
Ron

Ron,
Not a problem. My son is in Pensacola right now, he's in school for Aircraft structures. You can bet I'll be using him for our Spitfires when he gets home!
