I read that new replacement seals for tr3's were to thick and caused improper seating of the bearings. Can anyone tell me the prober thickness the felt should be?

Someone should know for sure, but I've heard several times that the felt is roughly twice as thick as that on the original seals. But even originals will compress somewhat over time, and it's probably good to recheck the bearings not long after installation and a bit of road work. I believe there are also more modern rubber(?) seals available, but I don't offhand know who has them.

Herald 948,     I appreciate your input and will keep it in mind while working on my tr3 this weekend.   Thankyou, Hans
