I am rebuilding a TR4A. I have a TR4 tub and the TR4A doors. I ma having trouble with the door straps- it looks like I would have to do some major surgery on the A posts to use insert the door strap anchors from the TR4A donor car into the A posts. Alternatively I could try to use the existing (more primitive) TR4 straps but will need to modify the TR4A doors. Any advice on which is easier?

Thanks,
Scott

I cannot tell you which  is easier to change.  But I can tell you that the early TR4 check straps are NOT the better of the two units.  If I had my choice I would not use the early TR4 check straps. They are poor units to start with and prone to failure very early.  Which I suspect is why they were changed midway in production.  The  later strap is very similar to the TR3 strap.  So I am guessing that they just went back to what they knew worked.
