I purchased a 1964 TR 4 6 months ago from the second owner since 1969.  He bought the car from a used car dealer and did basic maintainance to keep it running.  Almost everything works on the car and it runs very strong.

I drive the car on weekends for fun.  Lately the car has been knocking and pinging after I turn the ignition off.  It also smells terribly of carbon and led on occasion though there is no visible smoke from the exhaust.

I've heard there are some good fuel additives and head cleaners that reduce carbon deposits.  Does anyone know about this or have advice on the subject.

Thanks

Aaron

Aaron, what octane gas are you using? Usually, these ran best on "premium" -- now 93 octane or however close you can get to same where you are. That's the only downside of my Herald. Every so often I try to slip in a tankful of 91 octane while he's not looking, but he catches on quickly and starts to behave as your car is behaving.  Grin
