Though it can be said that any TR8 coupe (or any TR8, for that matter) is something rare, the ACN coupes are about as rare as a TR8 gets. These were part of a 1977 pre production run of cars, about 150 is the best guesstimate, all automatics, that came over here and were given out to Triumph dignitaries and executives to be used as company cars.

They were never approved for sale in the US, but many of them got loose and were sold as used cars when their original service terms ended. Serial numbers went from 1 to 1116, though needless to say not all numbers were used.

So treat it right and restore it well. It is a rare and historic vehicle.

Hi Rosey

I have a listing of TR8 coupes that I have put together over the past 10 years that has about 180 VINs listed. That is split between ACN preproduction cars and TCN production cars. I would love to know your VIN and may have some background information on the car.

I'm a long-time TR6 owner and VTR member, and I just bought a TR8. Are there any active Wedge forums out there?

This looks like a pretty slow forum. I too have just purchased a TR8. It had been sitting outdoors for 7-8 years. I am currently going through brakes. I have owned Triumphs since 1974. Spitfires and TR6's mostly. This is my first 8 although I did have a 1980 TR7 until my divorce ten years ago. This car has some custom body work, flares over the oversized wheels and tires. The Holley carb needs to be replaced. The interior needs to be gutted. Hopefully I'll have it driveable by spring. Then work on the cosmetic stuff.

I bought my TR8 to be my Oregon car when I'm visiting family there. I just got back from my first week of driving the car, and I'm pretty pleased with it. It's the only 8 I've driven, so I can't confirm my mechanic's comment that it pulls and handles like no other 8 he's driven. I can confirm that it will accelerate in 5th gear while climbing a mountain grade. My mechanic thinks it's got a cam and some other engine work, as well as the obvious lowered suspension. The interior a little rough, but there's no evidence of rust in any of the usual places, and only minor dings and crazing in the original paint. So now I'm home in Anchorage, where my TR6 is put away for the winter. I'm looking forward to my next visit south!

The real active place for TR7 and TR8 chat is the wedge cars mailing list. Go to www.team.net/TR8/ and click on "mailing list" to find out how to join.
