I bought a 79 spit this spring knowing it needed rod bearings. After pulling the bearings I realized the crank was damaged and a more extensive rebuild was in order. I have the Haynes manual but was wondering anyone has any suggestions for additional books etc. that will help a novice mechanic rebuild and or restore a Spit

That's easy. The factory service manuals are always the most complete and extensive for any Triumph car. You can find these at specialty book stores like books4cars.com or Midlife Classics, or in many cases even at Amazon.com. There are also official CD-Rom compilations of the factory service and parts manuals put out by British Motor Heritage. These are a great value over the printed copies. Find these at places like Little British Car Company and others.

Good luck!

Even better, if you are a VTR member, spend $500 with Little British Car Company (www.lbcarco.com) and get the Heritage CD-Rom of your choice for free!  Details at http://www.vtr.org/memberBenefits.shtml.   Cheesy
