Good Morning,

I am currently rebuilding the master cylinder on my 1955 TR-2 and was wondering what the original color and finish should be.  It has been sandblasted and rebored and is awaiting the proper finish before being reassmebled.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Lockheed twin brake and clutch master cylinder was black and the flst top portion was natural metal or silver according to a picture in Original TR2/3/3A by Bill Piggott.

According to the "Triumph Register Of America --Judging Standards and Restoration Guidelines" , the proper treatment is as follows:

Cover plate and unit should not be painted.
Filler cap should be black.
Brake and clutch lines should not be painted with color (should be galvanized or painted galvanized).
Boot should be according type.

I have found the above reference extremely valuable in determining what is correct in my restoration activities.  A copy of the above reference is available from the
TRA but one must be a member to be able to buy one.

p.s.  It really makes sense not to paint the unit as the brake fluid will peel the paint right off.  I have found that powder coating does seem to stop the paint peeling when something comes in contact with brake fluid.
