Hi
I purchased my 75 TR-6 about two yrs ago and I am learning about the car.It had not run for about 12 yrs but it's on the road again.

I need to replace the water pump and thought I would also replace the fan belt.

Has any one replaced the two items and what is the best way to go about it.

Look foward to hearing from someone.

I started writing a response to your question several times and it just got to involved with possibilities for such a relatively simple repair.

I think the best advice I can give is to obtain a copy of the Bentley repair manual.

But I will add this. The spacing of the impeller blades from the inside face of the thermostat housing is very important. It should be about 1/32 of an inch. Much more can cause cavitation in the pump and cause a loss of cooling efficiency.

I wrote a three part water pump repair guide and it is posted here. http://www.britishcarforum.com/tikiwiki/tiki-index.php?page=TR+6

Thanks for responding to my Water pump / fan belt problem. I am going to replace the water pump with a new one and wanted to change the fan belt which seem to be a bigger problem than the water pump.I have pulled the radiator out because I will be changing the seering mounts. It looks like I have to take a lot of things apart just to change the belt.

Thanks for responding I will let you know how I make out.

If you can use a 3/8" wide belt on your pulleys it is easier. Otherwise it might involve either prying the engine back or taking the cross brace loose to make room for a 1/2" wide belt to fit between the pulley and cross brace.

The water pump has a double pully and a 1/2 inch belt. I think prying the engine back seems to be the first thing to try. I am also replacing the steering rack mount and when I remove the old ones I hope it wiil give me enough room to get the belt over the lower pully.

Thanks again for the help
