Is Bill Sohl on this forum?

I just found out that NJ is severely restricting or discontinuing the Collector Car program at the DMV. This is (or was) a bridge between normal registration and historic (or QQ) plates. You got 3000 miles per year, no restriction on how your car was driven, and you didn't have to pass safety or emissions inspection. Only caveat was that you had to have collector car insurance. It was great for cars not quite old enough (25 years) to qualify for QQ plates.

Unfortunately, it seems that some people are abusing the programm, using it to avoid inspections on their old clunker vehicles, and this has motivated the State to discontinue the program.

There are severe restrictions on how cars with QQ plates are used in NJ. Maximum 1000 miles per year, no driving at night, driving only in parades, to shows, or club drives. I really prefer the Collector Car setup.

Bill Sohl was involved in the development of the program. I'm just wondering what he (or anyone else) might know about it, and how it might be preserved for legitimate collectors. Anyone have contact info for Bill? Contact me privately.

You can get some info about this issue at the following web site...

FYI, if your vehicle is registered in NJ as a Collector Car (normal plates and a triangular Collector Car window decal), you will be able to grandfather this type of registration in the future.
