I am in need of some help. I have a 1976 TR-7, Victory Edition, 4 speed. The differential ring and pinion chose to destroy themselves. I am in need of a ring and pinion or a complete differential.

Now, THE PROBLEM. I looked online at www.victoriabritish.com and on page 98 is the parts listing for the "banjo" type rear axle, which is what is in this vehicle. However, for the complete differential, their part number 10-0019-Z, they show it for the automatic transmission. I called them and they cannot give me any further information.

The QUESTION, are the differentials for the 1976 4 speed and automatic the same, or are they the same except for the gear ratio, or are they different.

Or if someone has a good differential, I am interested

I suspect the ratios might be different or perhaps there are other variations, as the manual and automatic rear ends have different part numbers.

One thing I'm asking myself is why you don't convert to the vastly more robust Rover based rear end that was fitted to later cars. The early 4 speed rear was one of the most problematic assemblies in the early TR7.

Unless you're a real stickler for originality, that is. In which case, why don't you send your rear to a shop specializing in repair of British driveline components so that your numbers will continue to match your build certificate?
