Hey guys,

My '76 TR6 seems to have one small electrical problem and I was wondering if any of you had experienced a similar glitch. My horn does not work nor do the emergency flashers. Checking the owner's manual I found it's on a circuit with several other items on a 35 amp fuse. The second one down if I recall correctly. The fuse was blown, so I replaced it. I pressed the horn button and heard a loud "click" coming from under the hood until after about three tries the fuse blew again. Does this sound like I'm in the market for a horn relay? I'd like to be sure before I plunk down 50 bucks at the Roadster Factory for a new one. Thanks in advance for any advice, man, this board is great! Grin

It could be a few things, one being a short in the wiring.

This site, Advance Auto-Wire has stock wiring diagrams in PDF that you can download to help trouble shoot your problem. http://www.advanceautowire.com/

Robert, I'm right there with you.. fighting my way through turn signal and hazard switch problems going on 3 weeks now.

I'm sure you've done this already... cleaning the wire connections on the horn relay and the hazards flasher (one's to the right of the fuse box and the other is to the left).

From what I recall.. the two systems (horn and hazards) are independent of each other (with the exception that they share the same fuse).

Pop off the horn push cap and see if the wire connections need cleaning; I believe (I'm going way back here..) the negative on the horn push is a metal tab that must be in contact with the metal on the steering hub, make sure this tab hasn't rusted or been pushed back so that it no longer connects

Will turning on the hazards cause a blown fuse as well?  If so, remove all 4 bulbs and replace one at a time to try to isolate a fault in one of the bulb sockets; this is usually remedied by cleaning the problem socket and/or socket terminals.  If the problem is you're not getting any current to the flasher, buy a cheap-o test light at walmart or autozone and touch it to the flasher terminals, or touch it to the bullet connected wires (there's three of them: green-red/green-white/light green-red) that are behind the dash and near the steering column.  If this fails you are probably going to be in the market for a new hazard switch ($89 at vic brit).

Hi Robert

One of the first problems I had with my 75 TR-6 was the second fuse down in the fuse box woul blow. When I replced it after awhile it would blow again. The problem turned out to be the fuse holder . One side of it shorted to ground betweem the bottom of the holder and the car. If I tried any of the circuts attached to it after a while it would blow the fuse.
I removed the wires and used the spair fuse at the bottom of the holder and I have not had any fuse problems since. If you have time you should also look at as many connections as possible look closely at the grounds because this is the main problem I had with the electrical system in the car.  Hope this helps.

Are you getting any horn tones before the fuse blows? Sounds more like a horn than the relay. Disconnect the horns and put an ohmmeter on each horn (pos to horn connection, neg to ground) to look for a shorted one. With the horn wires also disconnected, try a brief connection of each horn direct to the battery to see that each works.
