Hi Guys,

Cool forum, this is awesome! I'm a "FNG" here (friggin' new guy) and have a question about the '76 TR6 I recently purchased. My TR is completely original with only 52K on the odometer. The question I have is concerning the EGR valve. The "EGR" idiot light is on on the dash and I'm at a loss as to what to do about it. The owner's manual states that there's a maintenance kit with a key available at your local British Leyland Dealer (don't I wish!) to service the valve and the key resets the idiot light. I have a mechanic friend that will help me fix this small problem if we could only get some advice on how to attack it. Can any of you guys help? Thanks in advance.....Robert Black

P.S. I'll post a picture or two of my TR as soon as I can figure out how, or someone tells me how.... Cheesy

Hi Robert, the EGR light has no function other than to indicate that the mechanical counter has reached its trip-point. Here are three solutions.

If you do not want to be further bothered by this all you need to do is remove the bulb.

If it bothers you to remove the bulb you can take the counter out and remove the cover and turn it out by hand. This "fix" was submitted by 1985TVR on another site.

I replaced the spedo cables and counter with a single cable from Victoria British #6-757.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the prompt re: I'd wondered what that contraption on the firewall was with the speedo cables attached to it...now I know. Is there anything I need to do to service the EGR valve itself, or should I just leave it alone? I'll reset the counter tomorrow to extinguish that damnable idiot light. Incidentally, I carpool to work with a guy that ALWAYS has the "check engine" light lit on his truck. This drives me nuts, but he just smiles and says, "It's running fine, why fix what isn't broken?" So, now you know why I must put that EGR light to rest!  Tongue

Robert, Maybe someone else can help with the EGR valve service. Mine is also in the box with the counter.
