First, I don't think I'm the only one out there who's been tired, for the last ten years ;^), of wrestling with that filter canister.  And, I suspect the filter that fits it is not quite up to today's standards when it comes to filtration.  Yes, this is one time when I don't like "vintage".

So, who's had experience using an oil filter adapter on a GT6?

I talked to someone at Moss, and he said I wouldn't be happy with the adapter since, with the left hand drive GT6, I'd have to use a tiny, very shallow filter.   I think I've seen pictures, though, of people angling the adapter with the new filter's bottom pointing towards the front of the car.  The filter didn't look tiny, but maybe I just couldn't tell.  One guy I talked to said he angled his, but could only fit a ~3" filter.  Maybe it doesn't even matter.  Maybe switching from that big, weird early 70's era filter to a tiny modern filter, with new filtering technology, isn't anything to worry about.  Maybe the new technology makes up for the size.  If you have one, what exactly are you using?

Also, Moss specifically states that their adapter has an inner spring which is supposed to compensate for, "differences in engine block castings".  I haven't gotten a really good answer on whether or not other companies sell this same adapter.  Does anyone know?

Third, I wondered if I could get an adapter with oil cooler fittings and just cap them off, possibly for future use.  Someone said it wouldn't work.

What about a remote filter, even though they look messy?  I've seen part numbers, in the past, for these components, but didn't have any luck when I recently searched for those old stock numbers.  I guess I'll study the teglerizer site again.

There is that retiring machinist who I've been buying vintage treasure from..... maybe I can talk him into doing one last project.

Please let me know what you think, if you've tried these things, if you know a guy who's cousin's friend had one a while back, etc.       Thanks

I tried it and it ended up being what John Macartney called a "SOD".  Not worth the attempt.  I thought that I was getting a straight on adapter and what I ended up with was the same 90 degree adapter as the TR6.  Understandable since it is basically the same block.  Your info from Moss is essentially correct.  It would not work with the supplied filter and so I did some research and found a shorter filter.  I finally got the whole works in and even with the short filter it would end up being a PITA to change and I have heard of some who remove the whole thing to change the filter.  After I got it all together it leaked and I ended up putting the canister back on and saying the hell with it.  I agree that the replacement of the canister would be good but it just ended up just not being worth the hassle.  The canister is easier to deal with on the GT than on the TR6.  I can send pictures if you would like.  I think that I wrote an article for the Club newsletter about it.  If you decide to pursue it I wish you luck.
Happy Holidays
