TR6 seats in a TR4

(1/1)

ksd:
I would appreciate any info or advice regarding installing TR6 seats in a  TR4
How difficult is it? What year TR6 seats work in an early TR4? Are they fully adjustable when installed? I have to find something that works better for me than the original seat! Thanks: KSD

charley fitch:
I have a mid year TR4 not an early one.  But I believe that the bolt holes in the floor may be the same for both.  I have two TR4s with the 1974 TR6 seats.  They fit great.  However, myself being rather tall I went a step further and did the following.
I modified the slider under the seat that the seat mounts on to provide another hole at the rear for the catch so the seat would go back a little bit more.  In doing this I noted that the two handles which are located on the outside ( left on driver's side and right on passengers side)of the seats were hitting against the body behind the door.  So for the two front bolts that the seat is attached  to the slider with, I made up a 1/2" spacers and moved the seat to the center of the car.  Now I can recline the seat all of the way back until it hits the wheel well.

So by now you realize that you will need the seat slider/ platform that these later seats all use.  The TR4 through 6 all use the same slider. So any year TR6 seat will fit them.  Here is one more consideration.  The 1974 TR6 seat has a fixed head rest, while the later one has a removable one.  If you wish to use a tonneau cover on your car you may want the removable head rest seats.
TRF was able to special order the correct color seat covers to match my TR4 colors on the TR6 seats.
Let me know if you need any clarification of what I have said.
