Hello all.  First timer here. My father died in 1988 and had what I think is a TR4A that I have garaged since then. It needs a substantial amount of work of course but there is very little rust and the body is in great shape. The title shows a MFR’s ID No. CT 229 63L. It shows a year – 63, Model No. CT2, Body Type – CV. However, it has the TR4A insignia plate on it, the side turn signals, front grill with no vertical bars and the dual exhaust. Any thoughts on this. My thought would be that the title got corrupted somewhere along the way, except the engine compartment plate has the same ID No. as the title.  It seems from my limited research that the car is a 1965 or later TR4A but the plate and title say otherwise. Interesting situation, Raleigh! The commission number most definitely points to a circa 1963 model year TR4. Do you have the engine number or body number(s)? They, if original, might shed some light on this. As for the commission number plate itself, any evidence that it isn't the original or has been removed and refastened (with cheaper hardware store pop rivets)?

Then there's the very obvious chassis: which style is it (and does it have IRS or a solid axle...of course, the 4A could be had either way)? And which folding top does it have?

There are a number of very subtle but different things about a 4A verses a 4.  I saw a "mixed " car at VTR this year.  The commission number said TR4 but the body said TR4A.  After looking the car over a bit, I finally found the owner and ask him what was up.  Turned out that he had two cars and decided to use the parts of the two cars to make one and selected the features that he wanted.  The result was a  "mixed " car. 
If you are inerested in just what you have give me a reply and I will give you several things to look for that should define what main body and frame you have. Remember that the fenders  can easily be changed between the two cars.
