I have an open breather system on my 63 TR4 (Vented fill cap on top of valve cover and breather tube just behind the fuel pump.  I seem to get a good deal of oil dripping from the tube on the side of the engine leaking on the floor and blowing out while I am driving.  It seems to be more then I remember from previously owned cars with this engine.  Is this normal?  Is there anything I can do to reduce it? Any idea of the cause?

Thanks

The firs two places I would look is at how full the oil pan is, is it over filled? The second thing is what are the oil pressures showing on the gauge?  Pressures of 40 to 60 are normal.

One more area to look at is the fuel pump gasket or even the fuel pump itself allowing a leak.  Because of the proximity of the fuel pump and the downdraft tube it is easy to mistake the original location of the leak.  The new replacement fuel pumps have a tendency for the pivot pin to work its way out.  The result is eventual failure of the fuel pump, but before that you can get a lot of oil passing out the pivot pin hole.

Thanks Charlie,  I got into it today and found that the braided oil pressure line where it attaches to the steel line right behind the fuel pump and just infront of the breather pipe needed to be tightened a quarter turn.  The oil was misting out onto the breather pipe and running down which made it appear to be coming out of the bottom of the breather tube.

Thanks again, you are about the only one on this forum that is ready with a suggestion
