I just had my smallmouth apron professionally stripped.  Now I have a very large gap between the headlight bulges and the apron.  There must have been some soft material in the seam prior to stripping.  Can anyone tell me what type of material this should be?  And what should it look like when finished?  Should it be a smooth (rounded by my finger) type of seam, or should it be a sharper (L-shape) appearance?  Thanks!

Can you better explain the gap? Do you mean the fender to apron seam where it runs by the headlight bulges?

I'm thinking those seams were leaded (lead body solder) originally, and whatever stripping process removed the lead? Just a guess.

A little late with my answer, but take a look at my apron after I stripped it. I never found any gap where you say, or anything other than a conventional weld.
I'm sure I can send you a few pictures of close-ups if need be.
Again...sorry I'm so late. Just been busy is all.

Of course it would help if I sent you the webpage of when I stripped the body parts of my Small Mouth '57 TR3.
Sorry 'bout that

Again, if you need any close-ups of the apron, inside and out...let me know.
