thoughts in dealing with the telltale 250 clutch play. I have solved this problem in the past by making up an adjustable rod at the clutch pedal to the clutch master. Moss has the adjustable rod to replace the one at the slave cylinder, but my thoughts were that if the play was upstream of the slave, then the adjustable rod at the slave wouldn't help and that the slave rod would travel only as far as the master cylinder and upper rod could push. Now I'm at the end of the little bit of adjustment I put into the upper rod. Most of my play is in the "egg" in the pedal assembly. So either I make another rod, or weld up the hole in the pedal and re-drill it. Anyone have any success and/or comments on Moss' adjustable slave rods or other solutions?  thanks.

An 8mm bolt is just slightly larger than the original 5/16" clevis pin.  On the Stag, I was able to nearly eliminate the play (on a more-or-less temporary basis) by reaming the holes until I could just barely force an 8mm bolt through the hole.

But the "right" solution is to weld up the holes, and then keep the joint lubricated.

Another thing that will help is to replace the plastic line with a Teflon/SS braid line.  The original plastic expands under pressure, and so loses motion.

I assume you've already checked the most important thing : end play on the crankshaft.  The 6 pot motor is fairly well known for wearing the thrust washer so badly that it can fall out into the pan.  Once that happens, the crankshaft starts chewing its way into the block, frequently ruining both of them.

FWIW, I agree, the adjustable slave should be irrelevant.  The spring inside the slave cylinder should take up any play at the slave.

Crank endplay's okay. I'll bet I have a good 3/16" of slop in the egg in the pedal. when ever reverse doesn't go in easy, I just give the upper rod a couple turns. I'll have to pull out the pedal and re-do the hole.

pulled out the clutch pedal and welded and rounded the clevis hole, and now have an adjustable rod at the clutch master and the slave. now the clutch is happy Smiley  i know i'll never get as many miles on this clutch as my subaru did. i got 192k on it's clutch...but i get half of that and i'd be one happy camper.
