I have been a member of the VTR three times over the years. Because I have not been able to go to the conventions there has been little (almost none) contact with other members and other than the Magazine and a Web Site with little change there has been little to help me feel like I actually belonged.

I did contribute by writing an article for the magazine which was in the spring issue last year. I also made some attempts to help get the Wiki pages going. There are probably more members and non-members that feel the same way.

I have suggested that one way to liven up the Web Site might be to have a page with articles from the Magazine rotating on a monthly basis. They would not add a huge amount of work and, it would seem, draw attention to both the Site and the Magazine.

The point I have been trying to lead up to is that there is a wealth of stories and experience in the long time membership. I ask all members and especially the ones that have been around the club for a while to get active on this forum and bring this club to life.

Hi Tom,

I have been meaning to respond to your suggestions, but I couldn't remember where you posted them!  On this forum, on the AutoX lists, or in a personal email... so I found it today.

I have taken your advice and posted a link to a sample article from The Vintage Triumph on the front page of the VTR web site.  It is Richard Truett's excellent piece on a Stag he bought after it sat in a garage for a number of years.

As for helping our members to feel as though they belong, this forum perhaps will help, although it is open to non-members as well.  We walk a tightrope in trying to offer benefits to only our members while not appearing to be exclusionary to the rest of the Triumph automobile enthusiasts.  Our magazine is of course, the primary "product" or benefit, and your idea of presenting it to non-members so that they can see its quality is a good one.

Thanks for your feedback.  If you care to email me outside of this forum, my email is bdischer@vtr.org.

All the best!

Hi Blake,

We had passed a couple of e-mails.

I have always felt the VTR has been the definitive club for Triumph enthusiasts. It seems to me that it is more important to the future of our hobby than many might realize because it has lived and documented the past, when the time was being lived, and is active in the present all of which makes it in a unique and well deserved position to lead us into the future.

While I relay my thoughts and concerns, I also try and offer ideas to help this organization advance. I hope in some small way that I can be of help.

Thank you for your response,
Tom
